To prepare for courtship, waders develop elaborate courtship plumages.  Bare skin turns brilliant eye-catching colors, as do beaks and feet.  Plumages are the cleanest, and brightest and many species grow exaggerated feathers.  Wood Stork courtship colors are comparatively subtle compared to the others, and can only be seen in the proper circumstances, but the colors are striking.
