Nature Observer Sparrow Gallery

Sparrows, the family “Emberizidae”, are familiar feeder visitors, as well as mysterious migrants from the far north.  Usually brown and drab with conical, stubby beaks for cracking seeds, sparrows inhabit a variety of habitats: seaside marshes, prairies, agricultural fields, scrublands, forest edges and interiors, suburban gardens.  “Emberizidae” includes some atypical sparrows.  Included in the gallery are Eastern Towhee, Dark-eyed Junco and Snow Bunting.
