STS 133 took off from Kennedy Space Center on February 24, 2001.  It will be the shuttle Discovery's last voyage.

I photographed the launch from Sand Point Park in Titusville, Fl.  The new bridge between Titusville and Merritt Island framed Discovery's final lift off. The high-span bridge opened last month and replaces a swing bridge over the Intra-Coastal Waterway and the Indian River Lagoon.  Spectators on the new bridge and workmen dismantling the old one watched as the space shuttle blasted off.

It was wonderful to witness this historic moment and share the experience with so many people.  Please view my photo essay of this historic, reaffirming event.  Click here to view photos of Discovery’s final landing.
