The Halifax River Audubon Society conducted two field trips to Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge on January 14 & 15, 2011.

The highlights were American Bitterns, Sora, Clapper Rail and Virginia Rails along Biolab Road. The species count was 89 on January 14 and 77 on January 15.

On January 14 we observed a wing-tagged Black Vulture.  The bird was tagged by NASA to study vulture movement around Kennedy Space Center.  I reported the tag and received a confirmation and acknowledgment  from Eric Stolen at KSC.
