The Great Egret’s long neck bends in a sharp “S” shape.  In flight, its head is pressed against its body and the neck hangs deeply bowed.  The Great Egret is intermediate in size between the large herons (i.e. Great Blue Heron) and the small egrets like the Snowy Egret.  The Great Egret is 39 inches tall with a 51 inch wingspan.
